Charity

Love, Fairness, Respect, Honesty

Each year the whole Froebelian Family, including the incredible volunteer team of the FPTA, supports designated local, national or international charities and community projects. Fundraising is a great way for the whole Froebelian Family work together on a common goal and maintaining this sense of community is really important to us.

For 2024/245 we have chosen to support YoungMinds kicking off with the annual Form IV conquering of the Three Yorkshire Peaks.

YoungMinds is leading the fight for a future where all young minds are supported and empowered, whatever the challenges. They’re here to make sure children and young people get the best possible mental health support and have the resilience to overcome life’s difficulties.

Why does their work matter? 1 in 8 children and young people, aged 5-16, suffer from a diagnosable mental health problem such as depression, anxiety or an eating disorder. That’s around 3 children in every classroom. 10% of young people deliberately harm themselves regularly. 3/4 of long-lasting mental ill health starts before the age of 18.

In 2023/24 we supported WaterAid UK raising an astonishing £6134.25.

In 2022/23 we have chosen to support Shelter.  Shelter exists to defend the right to a safe home. ‘Because home is everything.’   The school community raised nearly £3000.00.

In 2021/22 we supported Save the Children.  The charity believes that children shouldn’t be defined by their situation, but by who they are and what they can be. In 2020 alone, they helped 45 million children across the world get the medicine, good food and education they need with nearly 600,000 supporters, alongside families, nurses, teachers and other workers.  Fundraising began with Form IV (Year 6) children conquering The Yorkshire Three Peaks – raising a massive £1396.00 and Mrs Dodds raised over £1000 by doing a death defying wing walk.  The school was delighted to present a cheque for £4499.53 to representative Jeanette Mowat recently.

In 2019/2020 charity fundraising efforts were cut short due to the school closure. As such, we decided to continue supporting Yorkshire Air Ambulance for the following academic year – 2020/2021.  Despite the circumstances the whole Froebelian Family came together to raise an outstanding £6024.39.

In addition to this throughout the year the school has supported a number of other charities and community projects including:

More information about our partnerships can be found here.

We invite representatives to come and talk to the whole school about their work because we believe that children benefit from a close involvement with the charity.  This helps them to understand the value of helping others which aligns beautifully with the ethos of the school.

The children are involved in fundraising activity individually, in their forms, houses or as a complete school. It helps them remain grounded, and understand how lucky they are to enjoy good health and wellbeing. We also ensure that the children develop organisational skills through fundraising; this complements the growth of their social awareness and an appreciation of the value of money, and the effort that goes into earning it.
